Before your appointment

How to prepare for thermography.

A practical timeline for reducing temporary skin-temperature influences and arriving ready for consistent image capture.

Thermography records temperature at the skin’s surface. Exercise, heat, skin products, caffeine, and other short-term influences can change those readings, which is why preparation is part of the imaging protocol.

Use the instructions sent with your appointment. This page is a general planning guide. Your confirmation and intake instructions are the current source for your specific appointment. If the directions conflict or a health circumstance makes a step difficult, call Olivia at (615) 200-0790.

About 24 hours before imaging.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, massage, sauna use, and prolonged sun exposure.
  • Avoid activities that create unusual or lasting heat at the skin’s surface.
  • Plan loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to change out of at the office.

Keep taking prescribed medications as directed. Do not stop or change medication for a thermography appointment unless the prescribing healthcare professional tells you to do so.

About four hours before imaging.

  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, smoking, and nicotine.
  • Do not apply lotion, oil, powder, perfume, deodorant, or topical products to the areas being imaged.
  • Avoid a very hot shower or bath close to your appointment.

If you need to eat, drink, or use a topical medication for a medical reason, follow your healthcare professional’s instructions and tell Olivia when you arrive.

On the way to LiveWell.

  • Wear loose clothing and avoid tight garments that can leave temporary marks on the skin.
  • Keep the car comfortable rather than unusually hot or cold.
  • Avoid using a heated seat on the way to your appointment.
  • Arrive on time so the planned acclimation period is not rushed.

Why acclimation matters. Time in the controlled imaging room allows temporary outdoor and clothing-related temperature influences to settle before capture.

What to bring.

  • Your completed intake information, if it was not submitted online.
  • Relevant details about recent procedures, injuries, skin changes, or treatment in the area being imaged.
  • Questions about the process, privacy, report timing, or consultation.

If your situation is different.

Recent surgery, active skin irritation, fever, injury, physical therapy, massage, or another circumstance may affect timing or interpretation. Contact LiveWell before the appointment so Olivia can clarify the protocol or help you reschedule when appropriate.
